We had a special reunion Saturday morning during check-out for a Camp Farnsworth Mermaid Tales camper. Autumn’s dad, Sargent 1st Class Shank, arrived early to surprise his daughter. He had been overseas for a year. Those of us who witnessed the joyful reunion will not soon forget the scene.
The River Rats left for their canoe trip on the Connecticut River on Wednesday afternoon. They paddled about a mile to their first camping spot that day. They plan to paddle about 9 miles on Thursday and 6 miles on Friday before returning to camp. We are looking forward to hearing about their adventure. Go River Rats!!!
Emma and Kate from Bits & Bridles take a stroll through camp on horses led by Barn Director Nemo and Joey. Bits & Bridles is a new two week program for older campers who are new to riding. The girls have regular riding lessons, help with barn chores and enjoy other camp activities when not at the barn.
Despite the soggy weather yesterday, we are excited to finally kick off the 2015 summer camp season at Farnsworth! We have lots of great activities, off-site trips, and new additions to Camp Farnsworth this year. If you have been following the GSGWM Facebook page, you will have seen a few of the new additions to camp. Just one of those new additions are tentalows that will replace the tents in Tovarich! Stay tuned for more great photos as we kick off #summerfun!
As you are getting ready to send your camper to camp, it can be a little overwhelming knowing what and how to pack. Check out these #campinghacks from Girl Scouts of the USA.
When the snow is flying, all I want to do is think about warm weather and camp season! I’m ready for awesome camp adventures and meeting new friends! The camp guide for summer 2015 is at the printer and soon to be in your mailboxes. I was able to wrangle a sneak peek at the guide to share a few snapshots with you. Today is National S’mores Day which in other words is a Girl Scout camp holiday. Our camp experiences would not be complete without roasting marshmallows over the campfire for s’mores! Back in February, we posted some recipes for s’mores. In honor of National S’mores Day, I wanted to give you a quick “how to” on creating those roasting sticks our girls all know and love making at camp! Post your creative s’mores recipes below!
- Wire Coat hangers
- Wire cutters
- paint stirring sticks/wooden dowels
- duct tape (in fun colors, of course)
- marshmallows and a campfire
